Honestly, other than Reality War, she was one of my favorite companions. I felt like she had a really well defined arc, her relationship with the Doctor is unique and interesting, and the way she learns alien medicine and applies that knowledge was really sick. I also like that her personal motivation often clashes with her morals, and it provides an interesting conflict for her in many situations.
I think he’s attacking insecurities rather than the actual flaws. If you do something bad but you don’t actually feel bad about it then he won’t bring it up because it won’t affect you. Being a virgin seems to be what makes him tick. But he probably is some shy meek individual.
I just love how vague it is. There’s a broad array of interpretations, all of which have some degree of depth to them, and I’m forever glad that the story has remained, for all intents and purposes, unanswered. The Beast could well be the literal embodiment of Satan, but until we’re told explicitly, we have the freedom to believe otherwise and humour some alternative explanation. Equally, these names – epithets? – betray something beyond what we see. It says so much without saying anything and confirms what I and certainly several others believe when it comes to horror: the theatre of the mind is more effective than anything the story can produce, simply because we make our own terrors.
Now i’m actually worried they’ll have David Tennant as 14 reflecting on the adventure in a post credit scene against a cgi background à la Star Beast and tying it into the Pantheon.
