How to handle multi-part stories, Part 1

Yeah but it has its own cover and synopsis and is a separate CD and released ages after the first, it’s definitely 2 stories in my eyes.

Ahem, :hand_with_fingers_splayed:

Starting with series 7 of the 4DAs, Big Finish started releasing the series as boxsets. Series 8 has a two parter that is broken down by the boxset division, me believes because they wanted to shake up the structure a bit (and they love a cliffhanger anyway). Me don’t thinks it makes sense to separate them if you aren’t separating the other 4DAs two parters!

(the typos and wrong structure bla bla bla were intentional this time)

(I just wanted to be the annoying nerd intentionally for once, just ignore me)

In summary: 4DAS RUIN EVERYTHING!!! :rage:  :sob:

Now that it’s out, I can confirm that it’s all 1 story, just like the previous two boxsets

Ugh. Is it useful to rate each part? Or not?

I think Mr Briggs just personally has it out for Shauny

I think so. I know we wouldn’t do that for Classic Who (imagine all those 6 & 7 parters…& The War Games!) but as with modern Who we can rate episodes of 2 parters so I think its good to have that option for things like Fallen Heroes.

Technically each part has it’s own identity, kind of, but not as much as, say, Unknown Soldiers (which also has individual episode titles). If that’s grouped together as one thing, then this probably should be too. If we’re keeping this one split, then that one should be split too, otherwise it feels (even more) inconsistent

Using another War Doctor release, He Who Fights With Monsters is one story but has individual titles and is three different stories on the Guide. Doctor Who: The War Doctor Begins: He Who Fights With Monsters · TARDIS Guide

Unknown Soldiers doesn’t have individual titles on the Big Finish product page:

Yeah I was going to mention this, I think we need to go by what is on the BF website.

Because of the many discrepancies the dream solution would be implementing some kind of thing to have both the individual episodes and the whole story (which is already sort of the case for some comics on the site) in some way that it doesn’t become cluttered and confusing, but I get that’s not feasible, and following the way BF markets the releases is in these instances the cleanest answer I think. I’ll just have to live with the few stories that don’t follow that pattern.

That’s weird, but they’re on the track listing

So should we go by track listing then?

I think it should stay grouped, and that it establishes precedent for Fallen Heroes to be grouped

But on the BF website Fallen Heroes is shown as 3 named parts. I think the BF website listing should determine the TARDIS Guide listing.

That makes sense, it’s just annoyingly inconsistent

Big Finish are just trolling me now…

The Seventh Doctor Adventures: Past Forward contains a story which is in two parts, but you listen to the first part, then a different story, then the second part.

Here’s how it is on the site:

With the Angels Part 1 by John Dorney (two parts)
When the Doctor’s latest attempt to return Harry and Naomi home goes awry, they find themselves recruited by UNIT for a special mission. A mission involving a new and terrifying breed of Weeping Angel.

Amid betrayal and manipulation, the Doctor and friends are trapped by a destiny they cannot escape. The future is calling… and so is the past.

Catastrophix by Lizzie Hopley (two parts)
Harry Sullivan and Naomi Cross are on Earth at two different points in a timeline that has gone badly wrong. Back in his own time with UNIT, Harry is in the Lake District, unaware of the horrors to come. Four decades on, Naomi is adrift on an ocean in an apocalyptic nightmare.

What is causing the Earth’s unnatural end? As the Doctor scours the years, he meets someone from his past with the tools to help - a mechanic called Ray.

With the Angels Part 2 by John Dorney (two parts)
A billionaire’s birthday party on a super-yacht is the setting for the final battle with the Angels. And the Doctor is on the guest list.

The Bladukas family have no idea how dangerous these creatures are. But they’re about to find out.

Can an old friend help the Doctor prevent a tragedy?

So to track it correctly, I’ll need to add both parts as separate stories, despite them being marked as one story :exploding_head:

They just want you to get email complaints for inconsistency

I am worried its gonna be confusing when listening too… Hmm.. my gut instinct would be to do it as two separate stories. Isn’t Day of the Master two separate stories? I think usually when they like separate them then its worth doing so.
