How Do You Refer to Each Doctor?

When you’re talking about one of the doctors, how do you write which one you’re talking about?

  • Spelled out (ninth, tenth, eleventh, etc.)
  • Numerically (9, 10, 11, etc.)
  • I use AP style. I write out numbers one through nine and use numerals for 10 and up (someone actually told me this once)
  • Depends on my mood

Edit: Spelled out would more likely be nine, ten, eleven. Also it seems like I should’ve added an option for actor name.

i go based on mood but i love the idea of using AP style… i mean when i think about it, why wouldn’t it apply to the doctor? (but i also don’t consistently use it in my day-to-day life… oftentimes i remember it when i’m about to write a number and then decide i would prefer it written out)

Kind of a mix. I usually spell out the number, but not the ordinal number? Like, Eleven, not Eleventh. Sometimes actor name, even, especially for Tennant and Capaldi, for some reason.

Depends on the context, my mood, and who I’m talking to. For ease: 7, 2, 10, etc. Or generally the actor’s name.

Thinking about it now, I probably should’ve made the examples nine, ten, eleven, instead of ninth, tenth, eleventh. The first was more what I had in my head.

I tend to go 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc but am forced to use First, Second, Third etc when writing for TARDIS Guide because that is the house style.

Oh, I also find it funny to just say the actor’s first name. As in, ‘Wow, remember when he was shot and electrocuted and died?’ ‘Who?’ ‘Peter.’

I usualy alternate between typing it out (Eighth Doctor or just Eight) or using the actor last name (McGann), unless it’s a Baker or Thirteen and Fifteen (in which case, it’s Tom, Colin, Jodie and Ncuti).

I spell out the number either with or without doctor afterwards. I might just write the number if I’m in a hurry, or for doctors after twelve, because that’s where you might start using numbers in german

Normally, I use 1,2,3, etc, but something I’ll do last names of the actors. But then I’ll also sometimes use One, Two, Three and so on, to the point I sometimes swap within the same post.

Interesting! I understand the reason for differentiating between the Bakers, but why first names for Jodie and Ncuti?

Capaldinho, am I right

…and how do you differentiate between all the Tennants?

But Capaldão/Capaldera for his more badass moments :sunglasses:

I never use the actors’ names unless talking to casual watchers who don’t know the numbering.

Otherwise, it’s a combination of 8/8th doctor/eight/eighth doctor depending on how lazy I’m feeling. (Just using 8 as a placeholder/example; obviously the same applies to all doctors)

That is indeed interesting because I usually use Jodie and Ncuti if I refer to them by their names, but I usually use last names for the rest. I don’t know why.

Otherwise, I like to call my Doctors Bob, Andrew, James, Nathan, Robert, Mickey, Phil, Hugh, Paul, Lloyd, Jules, Matthew, Jack, Aurora, and Dave.

What? That’s not what you were asking?

I don’t know. Maybe they just flow better in in-person conversation? I don’t really know. That’s just what I’ve found myself doing.

Amusing that 13 is Jack and 14 is Aurora

Usually it’s solved by context of what I’m talking about. I’ll usually specify Fourteen more than I’ll specify Ten.
