How did you come to TARDIS Guide?

Thank you, that’s so kind! And as I’ve said before, it’s not just me but also @deltaandthebannermen, the other mods, and anyone at the top of the Leaderboard who have come together and make this place a really nice place to be

I was using a Time Scales user like many others, then the rant happened. Was reading up on stuff about it and saw a tweet about a small site called TARDIS Guide. Got curious and now here I am!

I probably saw someone mention it on Tumblr or Discord, and decided to check it out. This was back in March, so I don’t remember the details. I found the forum a few days later while clicking buttons around the site to see what they do (something I love doing with every new site or app I star using). It’s lovely here.

I’m too much of a dinosaur to know what Tumblr is (I remember MySpace after all!), so I found this site after a good old Google search. I was posting on another site, but tired of the negativity there, and wanted a more positive experience. So far, this has been very much what The Doctor ordered!

I think I saw a link to it on Tumblr. I honestly only came into the forum to begin with to get verified so I could post quotes, lols.

My scheme to get people to come to the forum by blocking certain features until they post works! Mwhahaah!

Same here lol

I honestly don’t remember, but I reckon I saw a link to here on Tumblr and never looked back

I saw a post on Reddit asking about alternatives to the old Tardis Wiki or something like that (this was before the fork, although the forking process was in full swing behind the scenes). Someone linked Tardis Guide in the replies.

Something I’ve learnt from this thread is that Tumblr still exists. I honestly haven’t heard anyone speak about that site since 2018 - I honestly saw it as a modern day MySpace.

@deltaandthebannermen flashed his ankles at me and went, “We’re all having loadsa fun over at TARDIS Guide,” so I dutifully followed…

In all seriousness, I’d been an avid user at GallifreyBase for years and years and years and the general toxicity around the Chibnall era combined with a couple of belligerently entitled and obnoxious posters made it a very unpleasant place to be. So I just stopped going and then disconnected a bit from fandom in general.

Then the next time I started a marathon I thought I’d document it on YouTube and started having a fairly nice time engaging again. So when Delta flashed his ankles coquettishly at me and made mention of this new forum I was ready to join another board.

Lovely place, this.

Tumblr is still very much active. It’s kinda like that “stop telling people I’m dead” meme. Yes, there was a great exodus in 2018, but it never fully died. I can spend two hours scrolling through my dash without getting all caught up on posts. It doesn’t really grow because it’s so different to everything else out there that there’s a bit of a learning curve, but honestly I love it. No algorithms, no public likes or follower count, it’s just very low pressure. I won’t say I recommend it, but if you’re frustrated with other social media, it’s the place to be.

See I thrive off the pressure. Which is probably why I sometimes have OCD realted panic attacks whilst writing reviews, but it’s worth it to get things as perfect as can be.

Probably all stems from when I used to run my own YouTube channel. Got up to 500 subscribers doing a mix of gaming videos and Doctor Who reviews… though thank God the videos are all deleted, because Whoviews was such a terrible series.

But I would always pressure myself to work harder, to get more people iteracting and expand my audience. It makes me work all that harder.

Low pressure has never worked for me :joy:

I think I found it on mastadon?

I was just looking for doctor who things and it was there, so I gave it a look and now here I am!

The first time I came across the site was a while ago when I was looking for high quality versions of big finish’s individual story covers (the big finish site only displays the boxset covers, and the tardiswiki gallery is inconsistently low-resolution) and saw that this place used the full resolution ones. Then a couple months later I saw a link on tumblr, recognized the site, saw that it had been massively updated, and joined up. A little while after that, the forum started

Oh nice, glad my dedication to getting high quality graphics has paid off!

It really bugs me when I can only find low-res images for things. Big Finish’s site is so annoying because they have the high res images on their server but just don’t link to them properly - you have to alter the URL to grab them!

Took me ages! :weary:

I know some BigFinish stories have alternate covers - many of which don’t exist on download - from the sidebar era - so I’m just gonna chuck this link into the conversation whilst I remember.

This guy has also done era appropriate edits for all the classic Monthly stories too. It’s basically what I use to make sure I have a full library of cover arts on my computer, to illustrate my point when discussing the stories.
