General Discussion for Ranking Game

You know, you have been banging into us that the story is bad for quite some time, so I’ll be very disappointed if it ends up being good!

The problem with getting into watching classic that I don’t have with expanded stuff, is the watching part. And unlike with modern, I don’t have anyone willing to watch it with me, which makes it much less fun, regardless of how much I’ve been enjoying Hartnell’s first season. Reading and listening is much less of a chore for me.

Considering watching classic Who a chore hurts me deeply inside. But, when I tell people I don’t enjoy reading, it’s probably the same.

Oh, I don’t find watching classic more of a chore than I find watching modern. It’s the watching in general that I find quite a commitment. And that commitment is always nicer to do together with others.

I see. So it’s more the watching of any TV more than one versus the other. Out of curiosity, what makes audio drama that much of a difference compared to TV? Because to me they feel close to the same, but one just doesn’t have images. But otherwise it’s still acted drama like TV, like a movie, like a play.

I think for me, because I’m preferring audio to TV and reading these days, is that you can listen while doing other things. TV and reading you actually have to make time to sit down and do it.

Hmm, I’m not sure actually. It’s at least partially that I can do other things while listening, I don’t have to sit down and go: “Now I’m gonna lock in and watch Doctor Who” or something like that. But I also find sitting down to listen not that difficult so that’s not fully it.

Of course listening saves you from the visual stimulus which my brain might just like more? I do sometimes have the thought when watching stuff: ”man, this is great, but if I could just close my eyes for a minute but keep experiencing the story that’d be nice” so I suppose it could be that the whole visual thing can get a bit overwhelming?

Good question. Not sure about the answers, the brain is an odd thing. I’ll think about it!

I would end the game right now if I didn’t have to wait a couple more hours to post again.

Looks like about 6 and a half hours. No one can beat NobodyNo-One for kills though.

Hopefully next game.

It almost feels sad to start the last of this trilogy of elimination games.

We should do Robert Holmes next, and see which Tom baker story wins

Classic needs more love in the Elimination Game!

That’s how I felt during the RTD one

And that is not a joke BTW…

It is how I feel now. It is at most 4-5 stories that I want to upvote.

Ohhhh boy. The ratio of stories I like versus dislike is so much different here.

I still really think Eve of the Daleks was brilliant though.

I do prefer this era on average to either of Russell’s but the extremes aren’t as extreme. As with the previous game, most are fine with a few standouts and a few stinkers and, with a couple of exceptions, I tend to be in step with what people consider the best and the worst, even if I’d probably like the best a little more than most fans.

Invested though I am in some, neither this or the previous game will be as frustrating as the Moffat one for me. I will probably duck out of this thread while playing though because I still find discourse around Chibnall’s era to be utterly baffling.
