Space Babies is a good episode. To me, The Devil’s Chord is the worst episode of the last season.
Can’t disagree more, I really didn’t enjoy Space Babies at all, while I found Devil’s Chord extremely fun.
I didn’t think either was good.
I agree with this take!
Have you rewatched Space Babies? It is a great first trip for Ruby.
I haven’t rewatched anything from Season 1 yet. Should do that, though.
But half of it is a lesser rehash of stuff they did with Rose in The End of the World. A lot of the same beats, but the Doctor info dumps everything at the beginning instead of us taking the whole story for the Doctors revelation that his planet is gone. The CG faces when the babies talked were super uncanny valley. And this story was never going to convince me to think of a snot monster on the same level as human life. Top it off with juvenile humor. I find little I really like about Space Babies.
Rubathon Blue. I like Rubathon Blue.
And RTD talked a lot about how Season 1 would see him do stuff he’s never done before
One thing that annoyed me was how the characters always felt the need to drop the episode title (“they are babies … space babies!”). It stopped being fun after the first time, and then it just felt forced.
Beating a dead horse of a joke? I don’t think you understand the mavity of the situation.
I am not saying that it is perfect. But the fact that it reuses elements is not a problem. It feels fitting that the Doctor shows the new companions what travelling with him is like in a similar way. The story itself is not a rehash. The monster design is great. And I think that the story of a baby farm that gets abandoned is kind of realistic and good.
My biggest problem with this episode is that the actor who played Morris was supposed to be in this episode as the voice for some babies, but RTD liked him and put him in UNIT instead. I hate the character of Morris.
I actually feel like he also delivered on this. The season has many new things.
I think that it felt natural that The Doctor and Ruby have this as an inside joke during the episode.
It does!
Some bad, some good.
This is true actually. But Space Babies is not that.
Your problem with the episode is something that isn’t in the episode?!?
There are things that are different, and it’s a different story from TEOTW, but the stuff with introducing Ruby to traveling with him is very derivative and/or rushed. Like the phone thing, it was exactly same down to the joke about the bill.
I like The Devil’s Chord more than other things on that list…
But if i see [1] or [2], I know what i have to do
I know and I don’t think that everything needs to be new. It is still the same show.
Do you like Morris? He is the biggest problem with the final two-parter for me.
I can agree that reusing the joke was a step too far. But I do think that apart from that it does introduce things in a different enough way.
You leave Morris alone. Lenny Rush is awesome!
I would even say:
Delta and the Bannermen > Morris
Heaven Sent > Morris
I’d say that the presence of Morris is a problem for the finale, but he’s only one of a litany and far, far, far from the biggest
