Favourite Series 2 Episode

While there are some good episodes, I think Series 2 is the weakest of the Tennant era.

I’m shocked New Earth doesn’t have more votes lol. Actually, seeing how many of the eps i chose are near the bottom, it might be safe to say having first seen series 2 when i was in middle school has given me a certain fondness for some episodes i think I’d otherwise be a bit cooler on.
I’m so fond of so many parts of New Earth. I think the visuals really exemplify the Look™ of the RTD era. bright, crisp, colorful, a bit silly and fantastical, with a grimy underbelly that feels very of its era. After having not seen this episode for years, rewatching the scene of Ten and Rose lying in the grass had such an impact on me. Instantly brought me back to just how in love with the Doctor I was back then. whatever your feelings on companion/doctor romance, i think that one scene, the two of them remembering their “first date”, lying in the sun, reminiscing about when the Doctor was a completely different Doctor but still someone Rose loved… it’s so romantic to me. UGH.
In the same vein, I am still so fond of Fear Her for its looks and bright shiny colors. It was the first time I’d ever seen a british suburb like that and the imagery really stuck with me for some reason, despite it being basically the same as american housing developments with all the identical houses. the reveal of the closet full of scary drawings really works for me as a low-budget horror, and it terrified me as a kid.

School reunion, because Sarah Jane. No seriously it’s a great watch, love the way they brought Liz back! She always great but instead of just having a Character and their Actor (or in this Case: Actress) appear for no reason at all, they crafted a Story around it, which i just love. (And some Franchises lack especially in recent time). The Thread in this Episode is also pretty cool. Satan pit/Impossible Planet is a close second, Gabriel Woolfs Voice is just sooo good! And the Two Parter was pretty good too!

Not a big fan of this Episode, I like the Cat Nuns and there are some fun bits, but yeah just an Episode not really to my Taste.

I think there are some potentially interesting ideas and it looks decent, but I’m not a fan of Cassandra and it gets too silly with all the body swapping.

probably my least fav rtd opener.

I haven’t watched it in a very long time, so I guess it isn’t one that I’ve ever felt a desire to really go back to. The main bits I remember are some of the possession hijinks with Cassandra and the ending. I couldn’t tell you anything about the plot beyond that unfortunately - I’ve at least rewatched the other RTD1 season openers in the past few years, unlike this one.

I feel like it’s a shit episode, but it does has a nice sort of charm to it

It’s an episode which has had little impact on me, but I always enjoy it a little more than I think I do when I watch it. I quite enjoyed Cassandra coming back

I feel like it’s one of those Doctor Who episodes where it isn’t really bad, but it’s painfully mediocre, which is extra rough in a series full of so many bangers. I enjoy it on full series rewatches, but I’m not really going out of my way to watch it on it’s own.

I wouldnt say Series 2 has many bangers but fair.

S2 is definitely the weakest RTD1 series imo, has some strong points but a lot of meh

I’m with Meara on this one - at least, I think series 2 is stronger than series 3, and pretty close behind series 4. School Reunion, The Girl in the Fireplace and The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit all slap, and I also like The Christmas Invasion, Love and Monsters and Army of Ghosts/Doomsday more than average. I really like that it still has some of the slightly edgy spirit of series 1, and the series is paced in a way that spreads out the good episodes (unlike 3 and 4, which I personally think have weak first halves and strong second halves).

Outside of those above, I don’t recall there being any bad episodes in this season, just a few average/forgettable ones, although as with New Earth, there are a few I haven’t seen in a loooong time

I would actually say Series 2 isn’t a bad series (with Doctor Who, there aren’t really bad series), it just happens to be the weakest out of the RTD1 series.

I like New Earth, personally. I think it’s visually fantastic and it’s a lot of fun. I like Cassandra and I’m glad they brought her back. Same with the Face of Boe. The cat nuns are just gorgeous character design and those prosthetics are so impressive.

It’s just a bit of fun really, I don’t have any strong opinions on this one.

It’s fine. Paul Collins is the Scene Stealer here. I liked the Concepts, but I think they ended up a bit wasted. But really it’s fine, a perfectly middle of the Road Story.

Looking at this list and even my favourites (the Beast two parter and School Reunion) still aren’t even that high for me… Yeah series 2 just isn’t for me I think lol
