Favourite non-numbered Doctor

I feel like many of these are tenuous, The Valeyard, the Dream Lord and probably the Watcher aren’t literally the Doctor, the Guardians of the Edge are a totally abstract revisit, while the Morbius incarnations and the “Timeless Child” certainly qualify they’re hard to regard as serious options without stories featuring them in any real capacity.

With that out the way, David Warner is sooooooo good as the Doctor. Love both Hurt and Jo Martin but as it stands the title has to go to him for his performance in Blood and Steel alone. That even being a set where you can hear his health had taken some kind of turn, but he doesn’t let it hold back his performance in the slightest, brilliant actor.

I mean, the Valeyard is the Doctor distilled, more than one Doctors worth of the darker sides of the Doctor, so probably the most Doctory of them all. The Timelord Valyardious.

Certainly the closest, sure, though:

“The Valeyard is an amalgamation of the darker sides of your nature, somewhere between your twelfth and final incarnation. And I may say, you do not improve with age.”

Between this and his aim being to take the Doctor’s remaining regenerations for himself (which would undo his own existence if they were the same entity) I’ve always felt it clear that the Valeyard isn’t literally an incarnation of the Doctor.

Love this

Also reminded me of this for some reason:

Ah, the craziness of Big Finish.

I wouldn’t say this was particularly crazy, especially during the Time War. It’s a phenomenal story

Surprisingly I never commented on this poll, so time to fix my Mistake. Going to go with Fugitive, War, Dr. Who & Shalka for this one.
Not surprised in the slightest seeing both Martin, and Hurt/Cartleys Doctor at the Top of the list. Both amazing Doctors, which at times can get underappreciated it due their non-Number Status.
Shalka is just great, despite feeling like they could have fleshed E Grants second Incarnation more out, there is a lot to like about him.
And well.. Dr. Who is Peter Cushing, do I have to say more with him?
As for the others:
Haven’t done much with the main Unbound Doctor, but from what I listened to, David Warner is a Blast and I am glad to see him so high up.
The Curator was a lovely Idea for the 50th but Part of me wonders if we should have left it at that for the most Part, granted I haven’t heard all his other Appearances but feelings a bit weird that he has a few more Stories under his belt.
The Guardians of the Edge is an amazing Concept that probably gets my fifth Spot easily. Hoping to see it being used more often.
The Valeyard is a great Concept and Jayston is a great Performer for the Role but haven’t done enough with him to fully say that I like him, oh well one Day I will get around to it.
The Dream Lord is great, but one which I can barely really count as a Doctor, if that makes sense.
The Other :eye:
The Timeless Child(ren) is hard to really rate due all of them being pretty much one-offs.
The Watcher looks odd and I love him. Best Character ever.
Okay now to the Morbius Doctors..
Morbius 1: Charming, loved his three Seasons!
Morbius 2: Not so charming, no wonder why he only got two serials!
Morbius 3: Shame he was only a Part of the Show for a few more Serials, he is super underrated!
Morbius 4: The most famous of the bunch 4 Season and 2 more Serials is impressive, very much beloved!
Morbius 5: Another Hit with 3 Seaons, I dearly liked him!
Morbius 6: Shame he only appeared in one serial and never again, I rather liked him.
Morbius 7: Legendary!!
Morbius 8: Charming, probably the best of all of those if we are being honest!

The War Doctor for me but Fugitive Doctor was great too! Would also love to see The Dream Lord or valeyard again.

My picks were The Valeyard, Shalka and Unbound, but I must make the honorable mention of:

  • Cushing’s Dr. Who
  • Lenny Henry’s 7th
  • The whole Curse of Fatal Death gang
