Again, do let me know what you all think
I’m currently trying to write a little thing for an episode of gallifrey each week, which is actually very nice to get some consistent practice, even if it’s just a couple of hundred words. I really hope I can keep this up. It’s on ao3 here if anyone wants to read it
I wrote a lot of outlines last year for a 13th audio series, never really transcribed them in script form but I think if I was ever to put out a fan fic, it would be as a script. I’m gonna write something for 11 so we’ll see how that goes. If all goes well, maybe I’ll share a draft in a couple weeks
I love mundane and domestic AUs.
That’s it, that’s the post.
Probably not gonna share it here but I’ve actually finished writing something for the first time (Peri taking Erimem to an O’s game) and should hopefully finish editing it and post it soon and I’m just feeling very happy with myself for actually seeing this one through because usually I write a few scenes of a story that are most compelling to me and then abandon it
I wrote a couple more fanfic openings.
One Torchwood one, another Doctor Who one.
My dad wanted to read the Doctor Who one, and the Doctor is the 13th incarnation.
He gave some general tips and ideas that weren’t clear to him as a reader and questioned my stylistic choices and everything. But overall said that he disliked the story because I’ve captured 13 to the point of realism, and he hates 13.
I’m still a bit disheartened even if it’s a bit of a compliment.
It’s supposed to be a pretty bleak/fairytale thing, combining sensory realism with fantastical imagination. And he was like, “why don’t you use the 8th Doctor, he’s my favourite, your story would be so good”.
I replied, “it’s already bleak as it is, that’d just make it even more depressing.”
13 is supposed to offer my main character some hope in their situation. 8 would just make my main character spiral into a pessimistic, depressing, awful abyss. They’d enable eachother’s sadness, it’d be heartbreaking to write.
And then he thought about replacing 13 with 6, and was like, “But you could turn this tragedy into a comedy and it’d be amazing”.
And then he proceeded to act out my plot scenes as the 6th Doctor with Peri
I’m sorry your father is not more supportive. It’s your story; write it how you wish. I know how it feels to have art you poured yourself into be criticized for no good reason. It isn’t fun. Personally, since your father isn’t interested in Thirteen I’d just keep those stories to myself (or share them with those who do like her).
Also attributing Six to comedy makes no sense as he canonically has some underlying depression/ emotional issues. Depending on how your story plays out, he’d either go the Thirteen route you described or he’d go into a bit of an emotional spiral. DW and the Pirates (I suppose this is the “depression comedy” attribute your father was referring to) is an outlier.
I don’t know enough about 6 yet beyond Wink and CDNM, and some short stories. So thanks for this insight too! Pretty excited to get to his era but I’m on season 5
From what you’ve said about your fic, it sounds to me like Thirteen is the perfect choice for the story.
And no, I’m not just saying this because she’s my favourite
