Episode Discussion: The Robot Revolution

What was the issue :o

I mentioned it in my review but I really liked that 15 did the DNA stuff and was gonna drag her along whatever she said initially, for the mystery. 11 was like this with Clara, and 7 was also a big manipulator. So it feels in line with the character that 15 would get so caught up in the moment and the mystery that he didn’t even consider her feelings, and thought he could charm her because he’s used to being able to charm people into following him.

And I love that she had none of it. One of my issues with the Clara mystery box was that 11 didn’t see her as a person, but as a mystery; and was rarely, if ever, criticised by the text for this attitude. So seeing it happen here with 15 is so nice!

EDIT: sorry about the 2s of formatting issues; fixed

That’s one reason I’m enjoying her as a companion so far. I remember how disappointed I was in the Tsuranga Conundrum that Astos, the head nurse, died, because he was having none of the Doctor’s routine, and now we have another nurse doing the same thing, but surviving it!

Its okay if u disliked it i dont really agree with most of what you say but if u dont like it is what it is,its certainly not a story that is the best ever,I loved it but you didn’t and thats fine I’m trying to avoid any negativity, cause I’ve had it for a few days already but I respect your review.

This is exciting! New series! New companion! Another one who’s gonna get their life ruined changed by that two-hearted alien!

Live blog
  • Emmm… Why do these robots recognise a random naming certificate from Earth, a planet that doesn’t even have jurisdiction over its own moon? Why does this apply to them???

  • The big romantic gesture didn’t work, huh? Aaand I just remembered a classmate from third grade who owes me 50 cents for some cheep snack

  • Love that weird timey effect!

  • Ooooh good it’s not a robot uprising story!

  • That chair doen’t look comfortable…

  • Sh*t. AI. NOooo… Why does that AI need to marry? What’s the logic behind that?

  • very much very very much lol But that can’t hear every ninth word thing still doesn’t make much sense for some super AI?

  • Love how 15 grew his hair though. Another Capaldi situation? :eyes: The Doctor’s definitely having many off-screen adventures

  • I’d love to have a floor polishing machine who says “Polish polish” that cute

  • Doctor What  Next she’ll be like it looks like a kitchen!

  • Radiation-free X-ray? How… It’s DW, never mind. The blanket looks cool

  • So we are picking up at a later point of 15’s timeline?!

  • Secretly important companion…

  • So the hair’s just for this episode then

  • “Bel” sounds great!

  • Are you married? Ooooh why is that Alan? It makes sense that Al wanna marry her but creates more questions

  • OK you are doing too much explaining

  • Control freak Al? Why do you love (?) Bel so much anyway? I like Clara’s kind of control freak better

  • Still too much explaining

  • The ninth word thing feels explained but not really?

  • The best special effects for Blinovitch Limitation Effect so far!

  • That’s kinda cruel… And you’re laughing about it?

  • 15’s so excited to pick up a 21st-century human from UK again lol

  • No! Run, Bel! Run! Run for your life!!!

  • Good call girl! Saw right through the guy! I love her already! I wanna watch a medical procedure show with Bel back home. Maybe with pre-Doctor Hex

  • So Bel is in a Tegan situation then. I’m so so sorry

3.5/5 for me. Nothing special, far from ground-breaking. Builds mystery for the season arc and introduces the new companion. Solid is the word I’d use. I’ll come back when I read all your comments!

I think if anything the reviews prepared me for some really ham-fisted, in your face social commentary and what we got was NOT that imo. I really liked it, the TARDIS scene was the only one I felt was more prominent, the rest really worked. I think the concept was good, predictable (trailers aided this) twist with him being AL, but the gamer incel aspect was great. Honestly pretty impressed. I am really excited for next week, just hoping we don’t know everything that’s to come

Also! First time watching a new episode in the morning, it was definitely odd, but it feels SO good to be able to talk about it afterwards unlike last year. I hated last year going to bed while the conversation online was ongoing, this time its far better.

I think the fact that I didn’t read any of the reviews, and didn’t watch the episode previews other than the earlier trailers helped with my enjoyment of the episode…

See on one hand I really wish I didn’t know anything, but on the other hand it REALLY gets me excited watching trailers previews and reading articles :sob:

I liked it a lot. I admit that Belinda’s not “grabbing me” thus far, I like her but I doubt she’ll be a favourite of mine any time soon. But we’ll see!

One thing I appreciated was that there was more going on than is the standard of a season premiere. It felt like a strong story on its own merit as opposed to a vehicle to introduce a new companion.

The social commentary was very well handled I thought.

Happened to me before… We need a edit-your-repeats feature!

Agreed! I was saying to my partner today I much preferred it to Space Babies, he agrees. When usually you’d have the exposition in the companions first episode, it was kept for Space Babies and idk it was super clunky. I think in retrospect, had they done some exposition at the end of Ruby Road, then the rest in Space Babies it would’ve been smoother!

I couldn’t put that better myself!

Anything that happens, happens.

Anything that, in happening, causes something else to happen, causes something else to happen.

Anything that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again.

It doesn’t necessarily do it in chronological order, though.

Very talky, lots of stuff we’ve seen a hundred times before, very static. Varada pretty much carried this. 2/5.

I can’t stand the amount of explaining, but if I watch with, say, a 9-year-old, it’s either the Doctor or me. I prefer the Doctor explain to them
