I also really liked it. It was fun!
I loved it, gave it 4.5 / 5
To be fair, 188 people gave it 4 stars or more!
I gave it a 4.5/5, it may go down a bit on rewatch, but I still had fun with it.
church of ruby road has more
I thought it was average at best. Down the bottom end of Moffat’s episodes, for me.
Have to agree unfortunately. One of my main issues with RTD2 is both Christmas episodes. Doctor who Xmas was a childhood staple of mine, so when it was announced as returning I was over the moon but really disliked both so far which is a real shame.
I enjoyed it, though I haven’t gotten around to watching it again since it released. Imo the plot is a bit weak, but that doesn’t really bother me since the episode itself is enjoyable to watch, although I get why people don’t like it. My favourite part of the episode was 100% the Anita section, it reminded me so much of The Power of Three. Although it felt strange how disconnected it was from the rest of the episode, almost as if it was two episodes smashed together, which tbh I could see Moffat doing .
Overall I would probably put JttW middle of the road in terms of Christmas rankings, it doesn’t hit the emotional highs of something like Last Christmas or A Christmas Carol, but it’s still a good fun Christmas episode which is really all I need.
I really enjoyed this episode but I do absolutely agree with you here. Would love to have seen someone from Villengard get their comeuppance (or, at least, be devastated as the company stocks collapsed because of the events of the episode). There could have been a Sun Makers style denouement. I suppose Moffat felt that would have detracted from Chritmassy feelgood, but I loved The Church on Ruby Road and that finished with an impalement!
Yeah, I probably did do a poll, really, in the Official Episode thread we didn’t use (and I didn’t publish) because there was already a thread…
