Do we think that Bad Wolf will continue to make Doctor Who after RTD or will another production company take over?

I think Bad Wolf will continue production, but perhaps with another streaming partner.

I see people talk about this. Is there any indication that Disney doesn’t want to continue with Who?

Only from the usual Chicken Littles.

Nothing else than the panic in fandom about how we are supposed to get a new season every year and how they should have started production on Season 3 already. But they haven’t even started working on Season 3 yet, because Disney makes a decision about the future of its involvement after Season 2, which some have interpreted as proof that Season 1 wasn’t very popular on D+ and therefore Disney is obviously considering dropping the show.

So it’s fans panicking because a Big Streaming Service™ acts like a Big Streaming Service?

Tbh after something like “The Acolyte” being cancelled that’s kind of fair…

Well this is true, but RTD has said that if Disney bail out it doesn’t mean the end of Doctor Who.

But is that a “we’ve got a contingency plan” or a “showrunner generating hype” or a “wishful thinking of a lifelong fan” statement

You alright there, Chicken Little?

The BBC has said in multiple recent financial reports that Doctor Who is one of its most popular and profitable IPs. There is no reason to suspect that it’s going anywhere

What with this Internet thing, there’s almost too much information out there, and it is sometimes difficult to separate ‘information’ from ‘opinion.’

I had heard that the BBC considered ditching Doctor Who once David Tennant left, and then again before Chris Chibnall came on board. This may or may not be true - but if it is true then its present form, with much reduced ratings and critical ambivalence, is already on borrowed time and may not even be continuing now had series 15 not been part of the initial deal with Disney.

As for beyond that, who knows? There’s been no announcement as to its continuation, but then ‘Series 2’ hasn’t aired yet - perhaps they’re waiting to see how that is received, or maybe a further series has quietly been commissioned - after all, they don’t have to announce anything. The fact that Ncuti’s comments were edited out of the Graham Norton show doesn’t seem promising.

RTD’s statement was that there shouldn’t be any more ‘gap years’ from now on. In that case, they need to start with a further series pretty darn quick.

Give it to Heidi Thomas, who has an extremely well proven track record of serialized character driven drama AND also evoking and recalling periods in history with remarkable realism and emotion, and then cast Helen George as 16. Problems all solved.
