Inside a high-tech lab, the Doctor and Amy learn from Professor Banahan that the Macra are being used to absorb toxic by-products from the refinery, forming a symbiotic relationship. The Doctor uses his sonic screwdriver to calm the Macra and enters a gas-filled chamber where he communicates with their leader. The Doctor is delighted, and the Macra thank you all for your help.
