Comic Club: D12Y1.2 Fractures

Gangland: Words cannot describe how annoying most of the characters in this story were. Something about the whole thing just doesn’t work for me, and I really feel this story is very simple. (Especially the monsters).

So, yeah. Not the worst story, but a very very average story.

So this was an Improvement over the last one, but still far from truly amazing, which is kinda a bummer.

The Fractures is okay, I like the Concept of it, seeing a Family having to deal with the Loss and Grief of losing a Farther, only for a parallel Universe Version of him to reach them is great. It kinda falls apart due to how short it is, we never really properly explore the Emotion and while the Art is solid, it never got me emotional invested in it. I really enjoyed how we at least have Clara at Coal Hill, which is something which was quickly abandoned in the TV Show.

Gangland is much better and fun little Story, probably my favorite of this Collection. The Art is fun and the likenesses are probably at their best. There is some great banter between Clara and the other figures, and really enjoyed the ending. It’s not incredible by any means, but a really fun Story. And hey, I liked the Alien Design! Really the Vibes are excellent.

The Body Electric fine enough Art, fine enough Story, it’s a free comic book day story, so of course it won’t be a Masterpiece or anything like that. For a short read, it is solid, but not very remarkable. I have read better FCBD Comics, really.

The art style just wasn’t for me with most of the comics but I still enjoyed reading them.

The Fractures had an interesting concept—I appreciate the conflict between different timelines/universes—but it ultimately dragged a bit too much. The titular villains felt like too much of mishmash of previous monsters (I.e. Reapers) for them to truly stand out. Clara’s bits at Coal Hill were good though, something I also appreciated in the show. It’s an interesting look at grief but feels almost unfinished.

Gangland was a lot of fun, there’s a certain charm to Twelve and Clara taking on Las Vegas in the 60’s. Unfortunately, the plot is kind of forgettable. But yet again Clara’s interactions with side characters stand out, there’s some solid banter between her and the off brand Rat Pack.

The Body Electric was fine. Yet another forgettable plot but the action was paced well enough.
