I have been behind on this club but that is about to change! The Swords of Kali was fun and not fun at the same time. I like the character stuff and the love story but did not like the monsters at all. I gave it a 3/5
I want to join in so I’ve started with the 12th doctor comics because I already owned some, I hope it’s ok to join the discussions late xD
Terrorformer: I liked the ideas in there.
Although it’s ‘to be continued’ it works as it’s own little story that doesn’t go on longer than it needs to while still exploring it’s concept.
The Swords of Kali: Honestly it took until the second chapter for me to get invested, I think cause that’s when the side characters really get to do stuff. There was lots of really cool art in this one.
The resolution wasn’t entirely clear as someone already said… but I was just grateful the whole solution wasn’t Clara overpower the god with willpower
The actual ending ending to the comic was perfect though of course <3
Absolutely - there’s no statute of limitations on these threads
Just finished Sword of Okti, or at least I thought I did, but it turns out the issues are in the wrong order in the digital version of Terrorformer that I have??? I was confused when it completely skipped over resolving the ending of the first part, and now I know why after seeing that the comic goes back to part 2 after it ends! Did anyone else have this problem? I got this volume along with most of the other TItan comics from a Humble Bundle a few years ago and this is the first time I’ve had a problem like this.
Just started on Terrorformer (need to start catching back up on these, though I have read them before). I’m reading the PDF I got from Humble Bundle and the first thing I notice is that a PDF kills a splash page. That first big splash page of the sun with the story title where the words cross both pages, split in half totally ruining the desired effect of an awe inspiring image of a sun (and just makes the words seem silly). Beyond that though, I’m liking the art and it feels like the writers have captured S8 Twelve and Clara quite well. Appears to take place right after The Caretaker.
I mean, that depends on your PDF reader
I use Foxit on PC, and can easily/quickly swap between single page and full spread
I’m using Acrobat. I probably could find a two page setting, but don’t really feel like looking.
There are free comic readers that are better for this kind of stuff
Finished the first story. Quite enjoyable. Interesting ideas (you really don’t see terraforming much in Doctor Who), decent art and it captures the Series 8 leads quite well. While I have read these before, I’m looking forward to seeing where we go from here.
Oh boy my first proper experience in Titan’s huge Line-Up (after doing their 8 Miniseries) and oh… this was not a good Start.
Terroformer is alright, I guess. Some Art is nice, especially the setting and some Action Scenes. It very much feels like a safe bet for a first Story for a new Range. Some likenesses are better than others, (Coleman certainly is done much better than Capaldi). I am not too big on the Artstyle itself I have to admit, it’s not bad, just something that never appeals that much to me. The Dialogue is hit-and-miss, some feel much in Character, while others… not so much. There are some Moments, which I like, but overall it’s at best average, at worst a bit dull.
The Swords of Kali is an Improvement over the last one. For me, it uses some of Who’s Core Elements so well. We explore a different Culture and jump with time. A much better Story of utilizing how limitless Comics can be, because if you can draw it, you can make it, no worries about Budget or having to sound convincing. Having the fourth Doctor in this one picture was a lovely touch. I also think the Art goes more out there and is much more appealing to me. The guest Characters are also much more memorable here. Sadly, the Ending is disappointing, but at least the World building is fun (that being the Defeat and not the actual Ending of the Story itself, which I thought was rather nice)!
Overall I feel very “meh” on both Stories, which sucks, since I was really hoping to enjoy this, but oh well, perhaps as the Run continues, i will enjoy it much more, but we’ll see!
I found that twelve’s run very much improves, the second year is imo much better than the first!
Ah, that’s very good to hear! Truth be told, I doubt I would be rushing my way to get done with the other Stories of his Run if it stayed the same quality as it is right now (not bad, just kinda average in places).
Finished the second story “The Swords of Kali/Okti”. I liked this one more than the first story. I remember it being Kali in the physical collection I’d read from my library. However, in the digital PDF I got through Humble Bundle, it’s Okti. The art is decent, not perfect, but still quite good, and the story is very good, like a Doctor Who take on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I like that we’re getting a non-english culture featured here and the characters are engaging with interesting villains. The one downside is that it sticks Part 3 between Parts 1 & 2, so I just made a mental note of the page number, scrolled through to the start of Part 2 and then jumped back.
They changed it from Kali to Okti for the UK trade collection because the President of the Universal Society of Hinduism saw the story as an offensive representation of the Hindu god Kali (this was not intended by Titan). So, it was changed in later versions to avoid causing further offence.
