Lol. I did not know that this was going to happen
Yep, that story has pretty bad art I remember thinking that they’ve completely ruined River!
Just wait until you hit Empire of the Wolf and you won’t complain about this art anymore lol
I have read the whole collection now. This story is just not doing anything for me. The characters are badly written, the threat is just big and abstract, and the art is terrible. I am glad that there is only one book left of Eleven’s second year; it has been the worst part of Titan yet for me.
What’s wrong with Empire of the Wolf?
Putting a few examples under a cut, it’s mostly badly drawn characters
Summary
For example, this is Rose Tyler:
And now, which doctor would you say is on the left here?
You probably guessed wrong, because that’s meant to be Paul McGann.
If that image seems familiar though, you’re right because a lot of the art is also traced (which is not necessarily a bad thing if used properly which it very much isn’t here).
Compare for example, this panel
And this promotional photo for the TV movie

This same piece of art has also been used in at least four more panels in the rest of the comic, with only very minor alterations.
I don’t know what kind of stress the artist was going through for this, but imo this needed a lot more work
A ashame, as Ingranata’s work on Origins and Missy was really good.
Yeah, her other work is much better from what I remember, so I’d guess it was probably a rush job, and outside pressure, I mean, you never know what precisely is going on behind the scenes. A lot of it really seems like ‘this comic has to be done in two days, where can I cut a corner’
An I thought it was Cpt Jack dressed as Ten
Just finished this volume and loved it, it’s so deliciously dark and the timey wimey shenanigans are great. My main complaint is River didn’t need to be here and was weirdly assholish, but that’s about it. I love seeing a darker side of the Doctor, the Squire is a fascinating character I’m so invested in, and Daak is great comic relief in addition to being plain old fun. The worldbuilding goes crazy and the slowly unraveling mystery is such a good time. There’s so much to get invested in here and the new characters elevate it lots. Also the war doctor!! I haven’t listened to his BF stuff so I’m so excited to get into War Doctor EU via this comic.

… Is this how Whittaker-era fans feel?
Yes.
Yes it is.
Obsessions was…a story. Not really I can say much more about it.
Have read the first part of The One. I’m not sure who thought that with the Doctor, Alice, the Squire AND Abslom Daak already in the story that what it needed was another main character - and as @Tian has pointed out - the artwork on River is appalling!
Enjoyed the Shada parts of The One especially where they’re confronted by their dopplegangers.
Much preferred the artwork in this part but why does the art change back and forth between artists within the same story?!
Meant to post these. Firstly, who else spotted Orac’s cameo (plus a Liberator gun).
And here is what I meant by the difference in art style halfway through. Good:
Bad:
Oh that’s really fun!!
About the best thing in that entire part…
Read Downtime last night. I don’t like the way 11 is being characterised in this and the way he is treating Alice. It’s really spoiling it and River encouraging it makes me like her even less. 2/10
Running to Stand Still - why do people like this sort of angsty stuff. I’m liking this storyline less and less. It looks and feels grimy.
First Rule:
I am not enjoying this run at all. Now we have 11 acting like 7, the arch manipulator and cocking it up so that Alice ends up travelling back to the Time War without Daak as her bodyguard all because 11 doesn’t bother to tell anyone what the hell is going on. It’s not anything like 11, as far as I’m concerned and I’m liking him less and less throughout this run. The script has been forced to ‘fridge’ River and the Squire and the whole bit where the Squire disappears in Downtime and reappears here so we can nhave a ‘surprise’ is badly handled (and me not liking the Squire doesn’t help much).
I’m not really looking forward to coming back to this run (I remember not really getting into the Dalek Cabal first time round). 4/10
