Comic Chat (DW+More)

Thought I’d check my rating for that one on Complete Marvel Reading Order and Avengers #6 got 4/5 from me which is almost unheard from those early days - so it must have been good! Strange Tales #122 only got 2/5 though - but most of those solo Human Torch stories are hard work!

My rating for those is pretty close to yours - I loved the Avengers story so gave that a 5/5, and Torchie still managed a 3/5 from me, but I agree that his solo stories are much more problematic than most of the rest of the Main 616 stuff, especially since they never seem able to decide how much water (or even just slight dampness) will put out Torch’s flame. The Doctor Strange story was another 5/5 for me, though - I love that guy.

I like the Doctor Strange movies but I’ve not quite got my head around how mystical the original comic strips were. There is so much arsing around on the astral plane!

I began my journey through the Legion of Super-Heroes chronology. Decided to go all in and start from the beginning, so I’m still in early Silver Age - but it’s more fun than I was expecting, as someone who doesn’t enjoy regular Superman related stories too much

Understandable. Mystical shenanigans on the astral plane are right up my alley.

I remember reading Flashpoint and 2 volumes of Injustice: Gods Among Us! But other than that I’m more into DW comics now

To be fair, while those are pretty mainstream DC comics, they’re really not great, especially as introductions to the DCU

A good week to be a comic reader.

Honestly for me it has been a bit of a Batman renaissance recently. Before some changes in the editorial the only book that had any weight for me at all was Detective Comics by Ram V, but now I’m interested in Batman and Robin (PKJ took the title some months ago), Batman: Dark Patterns (it’s really really good and makes me wanna check out Watter’s Nightwing), Batman and Robin: Year One, Batgirl (it’s so good to have Cass back as the protagonist) and Birds of Prey (Batman adjacent but still). Plus I’m excited to get Fraction back into an ongoing in the next months.

And of course, Absolute Batman!

This week we got issues for Absolute, Dark Patterns ane Batman and Robin. All three are wins.

Didn’t like what I saw from Supergirl very much, unfortunately.

Marvel is (and has been) rougher. Ultimate X-Men and Immortal Thor are great. Ultimate Black Phanter is super boring. I liked this week’s issue from Uncanny, I feel the comic is back on track (Gail lost direction a bit with the x-overs). Meh for the other releases.
