Comic Chat (DW+More)

I really enjoy Empowered, looking forward to purchasing the ones that haven’t been collected yet. I was reading Hack/Slash, might pick that up, as I have the follow-up compendiums and I’m worried they’ll mess up my favourite crossover.

Also, I like Archie, and I am hoping the New 52 compendiums are released quickly.

In Who comicage, I am hoping the DC/ Sonic crossover, when released in trade, is a suitable sequel to LEGO Dimensions. And I hope Titan are releasing non-current Doctors, although I have the feeling that they aren’t.

Hoping to read more Evil Ernie but the omnibuses are no longer sold in my area. And I’ve been missing the IDW Ghostbusters as of recent (read: since they sold the rights to Dark Horse for the Paul Rudd films but especially more as of late) Also, I doubt Dark Horse are going to do as many crossovers as IDW, let alone more than 10 comic miniseries (I doubt they’ll get to 10)

I also hope the Ultimate Marvel collected books remain in stock so that I can purchase them. I like 1610 and I am looking forward to finishing it at the beginning. And I am looking forward to reading Ryan North’s current comics on catch-up.

Also, is anybody else reading Lytton (Eric Saward’s comic) or about to? They have both currently released volumes at my local and I would like another Who fan’s opinion.

Oh, and I should probably start reading Star Trek comics, I rather enjoyed Assimilation² and the shows I’ve seen. I apologise for talking so much.

Oh, and I have the feeling that the new Lawrence Miles project is some form of webcomic, but if it isn’t, that would be interesting as well.

Also, I have a Batgirl to read that I keep not reading.

Just read the titan run of the 8th Doctor, quite nice concepts and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Josie! Last night I did the last of 13’s comics too. I want to 100% 13 so badly but so many LONG books :sob:

Since I can’t find a topic for it, here are my cursory thoughts on Once Upon A Time Lord.

Dan Slott’s Once Upon A Time Lord featuring the Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones is also really, really good! The opening pages of this comic are so good and has some deep cuts to the expanded universe. The story as a whole is a love letter to Doctor Who, though admittedly Slott mentions in an interview it mostly celebrates the RTD1 era which is fine.

He brilliantly fits soooo much of DW history and villains into this story without it feeling too stuffed and I loved the twist at the end. I also really enjoyed the new baddies the Pyromeths.

The back-up story with the Ninth Doctor and Rose is also fun, but not as strong. I still liked it though. And I really, really like the art by Christopher Jones. He really makes this adventure come alive.

This wasn’t at the top of my to-read pile, but I might go out and pick up a copy now!

Stepping into the comics arena.
I started out with Terrorformer and the Four Doctors, both are excellent!

Yeh, The Four Doctor is a lot of fun. But Supremacy of the Cybermen is an even better event!

Oh, I have to get back to reading the Titan comics annuals soon! I read the first year of all of them. I recently finished reading Locke and Key and I recommend it to everyone! There’s a series on Netflix too.

I don’t mind, I’ll probably never finish reading it anyway as I’m so behind

There are spoiler blur and “hide details” for a reason. You’ve got us who don’t follow the latest issues curious now.

I suppose these last two issues could be compared to Wish World/The Reality War.

Wish World/Laura Kinney #6

  • Characters suddenly living an ordinary suburban life
  • A character who remembers what life is really like warns the hero
  • Really intriguing and interesting plot

The Reality War/Laura Kinney #7

  • PLOT instantly resolved
  • Random characters doing random things
  • Underwhelming and nonsensical
