Apologies for the late thread!
I liked this. Itās a little tonally all over the place but it is good for a little story.
8/10
I enjoyed this story, not read any of the Time Lord Fairy Tales beforehand but this didnāt lean as hard into being written like a fairy tale as I feared (though it did make good use of them). Very intriguing set-up for the next couple parts, my review below.
Iām not going to rate this, having not read it and all. But I must admit I was tempted to give it a ā1ā for other reasons.
Forcing you to re-buy Time Lord Fairy Tales to get the one story for story completists, and also for anyone trying to complete Circuit Breaker? This has to be a new low.
But I wonāt rate it because none of that has anything to do with the quality of the story itself.
Finished this in audiobook form (thankfully I got a deal on an audible subscription, so only had to pay 99p instead of paying £15 for the whole book). It was nothing particularly special but it was a fun adventure. I enjoyed the dynamic between Fugitive and Martha, as well as how the Doctor handles the information that the Carrionites give her, 7/10
Hope itās not a violation of order to post since I havenāt read the story, but hereās the new collectable listing for the 2026 edition:
Calling them now⦠okay they arenāt picking up. Only this guy Giles is?
Welcome @wildblueeagle. Feel free to hop on over to Introductions and tell us a little about yourself.
Decided to use this as an excuse to read the rest of the Time Lord Fairy Tales stories (apart from the one you need to buy an entirely different edition to access apparently), so Iāve just finished it! Slightly different tone to the previous fairy tales, but it works well as a final chapter.
Iām really enjoying the dynamic the Doctor and Martha have in this event, so itās nice to see a continuation of that! Martha gets to be appreciated as a companion in the way she shouldāve the first time around, and I think having someone experienced as āThe Doctorās Companionā helps keep things moving forward when the Doctorās not so sure of herself. Looking forward to The Kaleidoscope after this!
Ngl though, Iāve been sick of the others going, āMy Doctor would never do this!ā the last few times, so I donāt know how the Fugitive Doctor isnāt shaking people by the shoulders every time they do it. Especially as Iām not sure how melting the Carrionites with water had a morally significant difference to burning them, but they got out either way.
Overall, a fun one!
Got the book today, never read any of the other ones (by the way The Emperor Dalekās New Cloak is not included. Guess thatāll be an ebay purchase in the future)
Its fine, although on the low side of average. I do wonder if it may have fell to 3/5 if I wasnāt comparing it to the rest of Circuit Breaker and it was just a random anthology story.
The ending feels like a total cop out to. Burning the witches is bad, but melting them is ok? And please ingore the fact water killed the Wicked Witch[1]. Felt like they wanted to have their cake and eat it to.

Edit: Actually come to think of it, 10 would absolutely burn the carrionites. I mean, Martha was there for Human Nature
at least it did in the movie. Never read it but lets be honest how many people reading this would have? ā©ļø
I really liked this one. Good use of the Carionittes and is a nice sequel, and really enjoyed the interactions between Fugitive and Martha. Makes a nice prelude to Kaleidoscope.
Didnāt care for this one. How is melting better than burning?
Ah, well you see (for some reason) the Karionites and only the Karionites survive having their skin melted by the⦠wait hang on that actually kind of sounds worse
Very weird story, but I enjoyed it! Liked how it tied in with the rest of Time Lord Fairy Tales as well.
Whilst this wasnāt my favourite in the series thus far, itās the best attempt at fulfilling the brief.
This was good but nothing amazing. I gave it 3.5. Probebly my favorite part of the event this far.
