Especially since we know that Narvin, Romana, and Leela are going to be in the top.
Isn’t that precisely why we should be rating them?
Another question.
Currently, “Audio” combines Audio Dramas and Audiobooks.[1]
There are a lot of Audiobooks missing on the site (will be added eventually), so this is only going to get more of a problem - I think I’d prefer it to be only “audio exclusive” stories, because “Books” covers audio books.
But there exists audiobooks for which there is no actual book (from the BBC mostly, but also the Companion Chronicles), so there is no easy way to make this distinction.
I’m making a rod for my own back here but does anyone else think this is a problem?
This is true for Stats too ↩︎
I don’t really like the idea of rating characters. It makes me feel a bit sad, if I’m being honest—like we’re reducing characters to a numerical value.
I love the idea of favouriting characters, though. I think the option to favourite without rating would be lovely.
Maybe simply that—if an audiobook has a book variation it goes in Books, if not it goes in Audio?
That’s actually pretty genius.
Yes I know, so does @Tian, so I’m thinking of making a button that moves them automatically.
It’s just gonna be a huge task to add them all and assign them all so I’m putting it off.
I’ll have so many books to moved once you upload all the audiobook variations (yeah because I listen to audiobooks at 1.25 to 2x and it’s way faster than I can read lol)
Wait, then if I listen to the audiobook but the stats count it as my “pages read” instead of “hours listened”?
Sorry, double-posting because I’m on the train and the connection sucks
Like Tara said, I don’t think rating characters would be fun or useful, but if there was an option to favourite characters, you could show how many people have done that, and how many people are tracking them or completed them
Yeah, I agree. Rating characters seems weird. Like how would you ‘rate’ Belinda? She might be a 5/5 in Lux but barely scraping a 1/5 in The Reality War because of how differently she’s written. But favouriting characters seems like a good idea.
OK I think I might scrap the idea of rating characters, at least for now!
But favouriting will still be there
That’s a shame. I liked the idea of rating characters. Favouriting characters still sounds fun though, and would be nice to have statistics to show which era you have the most favourited characters from (I imagine most of the characters I favourite will be from the Tenth Doctor era).
As an example for why I think rating characters makes no sense:
The Sixth Doctor is my favourite Doctor. I would rate him a 5/5. But Six stars in Project: Twilight, and not only do I hate that story, I also dislike Six in it. Does this mean that I dislike the Sixth Doctor? No. In my head I’ve considered Twilight to mischaracterize Six.
But this is of course complete nonsense. What is there mischaracterized about Six? I could give you a list, but that’s just my interpretation. There’s nothing invalid about the way Six behaves in that story. I just don’t like it.
I can imagine most ratings for characters are gonna be for versions/portrayals of the characters that we have molded in our own heads, instead of anything actually based in reality. Which makes sense, because doing it any other way is impossible.
Yeah…especially considering most people prefer his audio characterization over TV.
