I listened to this book a couple of weeks ago and it was okay. It feels very standard NSA were The Doctor and team rescue a future civilisation on a random planet. Nothing wrong with that but nothing special either.
I’ve started on this book. I guess the opening premise is interesting, of the TARDIS sinking underwater with Martha still inside, forcing the Doctor to find a way to retrieve her.
But what the hell of a name is Candy Kane? That’s like a Bond girl name out of a Pierce Brosnan Bond movie (yes, I’m thinking of Christmas Jones).
It’s a pretty average NSA, landing on an alien planet where things have gone awry in a colony. Most of the characters are pretty forgettable, which is unfortunate. Martha also gets sidelined for good portions of the plot which I don’t think was necessary. I did however enjoy the otters.
Wetworld has an intriguing premise and a vividly described setting, but never quite capitalises on its potential. The narrative meanders, Martha is frustratingly sidelined, and the Doctor doesn’t feel entirely himself. A few fun moments—psychic paper tricks, cute otters, classic references—keep it afloat, but only just. It’s a story that sinks under the weight of its own swampy sprawl.
Here’s my non-spoilery review for you to read. Thank you!
