I finally finished Transit today. I found it an incredibly frustrating read. I appreciated the world-building - and I didn’t mind the sex/drugs stuff at all - but the plot happens so obliquely, spread across far too many threads for something without much substance to start with, that I constantly felt like I was missing something. There were the odd bits I liked (in particular the scene in the middle in the Doctor’s house was beautifully written) but the sheer number of things to keep track of, featuring invented vocab and locations, was too overwhelming.

Benny not really being in this book, her first TARDIS trip, at all is totally unforgivable. I know that there are behind-the-scenes reason why, but that doesn’t make the book better. Even worse, not only is the rare time spent with Benny actually a possessed!Benny, it’s probably not even the real possessed!Benny.

Thank goodness it was proceeded by Love and War, to remind us that you can have masterfully-plotted resolutions built up throughout the book, as opposed to here where things just happen.

I hope that the setting is explored in other stories, as it genuinely held potential. But I will not be rushing back to experience it again here.
