Cold Fusion: Eventually settled on this as my car listen and you know what, I actually enjoyed it very much. Didn’t 100% understand everything that was going on, but I’ve been around the block in DW land enough times that I vaguely already knew who Patience was, and I got all the references to Looms and Lungbarrow and so on, so I didn’t feel lost on the Lore
front. But it was overall just very enjoyable!! Exactly what I needed on a 3 hour drive
@sircarolyn here’s an blog post where Lance Parkin is discussing adapting the novel to audio:
Goth Opera: HELL YEAH I ■■■■■■■ LOVE VAMPIRES LET’S GOOOO
Is the short version. In truth, I expected to like this one of course, but I wasn’t really expecting to LOVE it. And I did LOVE it. Mancunian vampires??? Nyssa both a vampire and not boring? Tegan being mean to everyone as usual <3? Side characters that rocked??? Yeah this one has it all. Absolutely loved it
Looking forward to getting back to these after I’ve finished the Comic Adaptations. I’ve done Romance of Crime and English Way of Death, Love and War, Highest Science and Damaged Goods. I enjoyed all of them with Love and War, The English Way of Death and Damaged Goods being my favourites so far (all four stars). The Highest Science was the weakest so far. I’m looking forward to The Well-Mannered War, Cold Fusion, Nightshade and Goth Opera.
The back half of the range is definitely way better than the first. I particularly did enjoy Cold Fusion and Goth Opera of your upcoming ones
Listening to The English Way of Death this morning.
My thoughts wandered and I missed the bit where Percy Closed explained where he got his name, and now I can’t seem to find that timestamp.
Does anyone remember?
Just finished Theatre of War. Haven’t read the book yet, but it worked very well as an audio adventure. 4/5.
I’ve only listened to Love and War so far, and didn’t much enjoy it, but am really curious about the rest of this range since I think it is a cool premise.
Feel like shit just want this range back
I listened to Romance of Death today!
It was wonderful hearing 4 and Romana again, as I’m really missing them, but it was a bit of a mid story.
The best part was the Ogrons!
I too would love for them to do more novel adaptations. Has Briggsy said they’re not doing any more?
I believe they’ve said on the podcast that they don’t make enough to warrant a comeback, although they are some of the best sellers long term
Innit. I dunno what I have to do to make a Scales of Injustice adaptation happen but I will go full Devil’s End culty stuff if I need to
Honestly I just want bbc to give them the pda and eda licence
Worst comes to worst I’d make them audio novels and just make it readings of the books
I heard they implied piracy was the reason (People love them lots but don’t buy.) when Goth Opera came out (and Tegan too i jest).
They can’t get all the Lawrence stuff sadly. He sold the audio rights to Faction Paradox to BBV and has no control, last I heard. And I think I remember something about the old feud still being a tiny bit of a thing but that might be hearsay.
Goth Opera: This was so good!!! really well done adaptation and lots of fun. nyssa was great, as was tegan and the side characters. i love vampires :)
