I haven’t listened to many early 4DAs, but most of those I have I also found pretty dull.
Wrath of the Iceni (the third story) is good IMO!

Feels wrong they had to wait years to get Tom, and they give him crap scripts at first.
They knew they could never beat the Nest Cottage Chronicles 
(And (in my opinion) they never have…)

I have been doing these in order for the last few weeks and am up to s5 now - Iceni is excellent, as has been mentioned. All the Romana i stuff is pretty decent, and s3 and 4 have some high highs and low lows. Overall, I’d say this range is the occassional gem among an average 7/10, which is pretty good all things considered

The early 4th Doctor ones aren’t OMG BEST DOCTOR WHO STORIES EVAH! But I found them pleasant enough to listen to. They capture the era well.

Labyrinth of Buda Castle: One I’ve heard before and I liked it better than I remembered. I’m weak for vampires
Paradox Planet: So did not realise this was a 2 parter so I was a little bit like uhhh this isn’t wrapping up?? But I get it now. Saw that pt2 cliffhanger coming from a mile away, but I do enjoy a story that tells itself in various points in time. Started strong but felt it fell off a bit by the end

Legacy of Death: Yeah this one is great fun and very clever. I think I’m a little too tired to have followed or appreciated it as properly as I should have but a very strong start to the Romana ii series

Gallery of Ghouls: ehhh it’s a fun enough story but it hits on a bunch of tropes that don’t do it for me and I hate a fake french accent, so this was never going to be a favourite.Romana and the Doctor were written very well though

I think series 5 is my favorite from the first five. Wave of Destruction could be better but is serviceable, both Buda Castle and Gallery Ghouls are fun stories, The Trouble with Drax even more so.
The Pursuit of History/Casualties of Time is a good ending to the Cuthbert storyline and I love love love love The Paradox Planet/The Legacy of Death (my favorite from Four so far, even!),

I realised that Drax is my next one so I basically have to listen to that before I get lost on my Vienna adventure. I’ll agree that s5 has been most consistently good so far, but I do also miss Leela

The Trouble With Drax: I’m going to get strung up for this… A very fun, very well written story. Funny, snappy, full of shenanigans - I can fully understand why people love this one. However… I just don’t think I like Drax. I think he’s really annoying… So despite the fact that yes, I did enjoy this, it isn’t going to become a favourite of mine. Sorry…

There are maybe like three John Dorney stories I don’t like, I am so fully in the cult of Dorney - I would have been so sad if I hadn’t liked it at all.
