Yayyyy Lis Sladen!!! I really like this one - I think it’s wonderfully vibrant and full of exciting side characters. And I just really love Benny <3

I reviewed this one many moons ago so it isn’t the greatest of pieces but this is a story - and a trilogy - I have a lot of time and affection for. Definitely a huge upswing in quality from the first two releases (as much as I love Oh No It Isn’t).

What a Story! I really enjoyed it! Great Cast! Great Setting and just a fun one really! Also while not really Part of the Audio Club since doing them, I decided to read each of the Benny Books that those Audios are based on and this one is easily my favorite Novel of the three I read. Orman’s Writing is just great all around, I highly recommend reading them! Especially comparing the difference can be quite fun, I cannot lie!

It was a lovely listen. Elisabeth Sladen is superb. Feels like a comfort story. 8/10

Here’s what I said before about this audio:

I can’t really remember much of it now to be honest!

I love this one. It, Birthright, and Just War are some of my favourite Benny audios, I think as a trilogy they work really well because of the different settings and stories but still a thread going through them. I want to read the novel Walking to Babylon at some point.

The setting of Babylon is fairly underused in doctor who and therefore interesting; I liked the side characters (although I must say, of the classic who actors they reused in guest roles of Benny s1, Sladen was my least favourite, simply because her voice is so distinctive that I couldn’t help but visualise Sarah Jane, which was quite distracting when she was supposed to be a Babylonian priestess.) I liked Lafayette in it, having a historical character visit a different historical time period is an idea I think should be done more often, and I appreciated that he had period-typical views while also being a sympathetic character. But mainly I love the story because it has my beloved Benny in it <3

My original review:

The plot was great. The world of Babylon is really well fleshed out and, based on the sound work, feels alive. While a little slow, the overall plot development is worth it. The sound design work is still a little iffy in a few places but, again, it is a vast improvement over the previous two releases. For me, this sets up the next two parts of this trilogy excellently.

I think it still stands.

Well, a positive surprise after a shaky beginning to this range. This is the second Mesopotamia-set story I’ve completed since joining the site, and it is much better than the first one. Actually loved Benny and Lafayette in this, and Lis Sladen of course!

8/10

Walking to Babylon is an ambitious and engaging opener for the Time Ring Trilogy, blending ancient history, romantic tension, and high-stakes sci-fi. It doesn’t quite make ancient Babylon pop as a location, but the dynamic between Benny and Lafayette, plus the philosophical tension with the People, gives the story enough energy and intrigue to overcome its slower patches. With a cliffhanger ending and strong character moments, this is a promising start to a more emotionally driven Bernice arc.
